Dear Ken Cheng: My Child Wants To Be A Disney Princess On World Book Day. What Should I do?

Our resident corporate Agony Uncle, CEO Ken Cheng, tackles business challenges – so you don’t have to.

Dear Ken Cheng,

I’m worried my child is picking bad books as inspiration for dressing up for World Book Day. She doesn’t pick successful role models, and instead she likes Disney princesses. Is there anything I can do to make sure she’s a powerful She-E-O when she’s older?

– Tanya, Salisbury

My son used to dress up as Batman as a child, because he thought it was cool. He loved all the Batman films.

I could’ve banned Batman, but no. There was an easy solution.

Batman’s real life counterpart? Bruce Wayne. A successful businessman.

One day I sat down to watch The Dark Knight with him, but I had edited out all the scenes with Batman in and kept Bruce Wayne.

My son was perplexed.

“The movie made no sense! Where’s Batman?!” He cried.

“Son, Batman is a criminal thug. Bruce Wayne doesn’t need violence to solve his problems: he’s rich.”

I sent my son into school this year dressed as Bruce Wayne instead. He wore a very expensive suit and told him to announce a new Wayne Enterprises investment round.

My son came home with more business connections than Batman ever could.
