Long term support and advisory board member of Little Grey cells Club, Cecilia Weckstrom’s latest paper on Substack tackles ‘change implementation’ – how most transformation programmes erode because they rely on individual effort instead of embedded capability.
Cecilia says: The initiative launches, capability builds, the sponsors are excited — then gradually, things drift back. The people who made it work move on. What they built doesn’t survive them.
I’ve watched this pattern for 25 years. But I’ve also seen the exceptions — and the difference isn’t commitment, budget, or executive sponsorship.
It’s something most transformation efforts get backwards from the start.
