You Don’t Need To Change To Impress People, You Just Need To Pretend You Have Changed

Our resident corporate Agony Uncle, CEO Ken Cheng, tackles business challenges – so you don’t have to

Q. One of my co-workers had a massive glow up and is getting loads of attention around the office. How can I gain muscle and look better? – Hal, Croydon

A. Don’t bother.

Sure, you can spend a lot of hours dieting and exercising to create the perfect physique. You can also piss those hours down the drain, because it’s basically the same thing.

Gymming is a huge waste of time. I guarantee you can get the same attention and praise without spending a single second on a machine.

How?

Simple: pretending like you’ve already achieved a lot of progress.

The key to doing a “glow up” is not actually glowing up, it’s staying the exact same but pretending you have already changed.

Put together some very convincing “before” photos. I hired someone who looked similar to me to pose as past me, except they weighed a lot more and were at least 4 points less attractive than me.

I also searched online for a makeup artist that specialises in making people look uglier to play meth addicts. We took a lot of photos and then I made the picture look grainier to seem like it was from the past.

Et voila. I had the perfect “glow up” photos.

I showed them to people at work and they ooh’d and ahh’d, asking me what my routine was. One person even said later I was a huge inspiration for their fitness journey.

I got as much attention as anyone with a fit bod and I didn’t even need to do a damn thing.
