Q. How do you feel about people boycotting musicians based on their politics? My daughter doesn’t want to come with me to a concert because of their views. – Hannah, machynlleth
A. Boycotts are cowardly. Your daughter is a coward.
Politics have no place in music. Music has no meaning or message and simply amounts to “noises sound good”.
Musicians have never brought politics into their art in the history of ever.
Except when Bono did all that Africa stuff.
But that’s different, and musicians have never talked about war on stage.
Except for John Lennon being anti-war and turning Imagine into a symbol of peace.
Besides that, it has never happened.
Boycotting shouldn’t be allowed for one good reason: it’s so mean to the famous millionaire musicians.
It is also a violation of their freedoms. Musicians should be free to do and say whatever they want without you not coming to their concert.
You should be buying a ticket to their concert regardless of their political views, their actions or even if you like their music.
Not spending hundreds of pounds on artists you dislike is an attack on our democracy.
Make your daughter go to the concert. In the name of freedom.
