Our resident corporate Agony Uncle, CEO Ken Cheng, tackles business challenges – so you don’t have to
Dear Ken Cheng,
I’m having trouble keeping up with all three letter acronyms people use. CSM, CRM, GTM. How do you keep up?
– Rebecca, London
Ken Cheng:
I don’t.
The truth is, I don’t remember what a single 3-letter acronym stands for. I simply freestyle it in all business interactions.
I went to a networking event a few weeks ago where a lot of people were using these terms. The average worker in the corporate space is barely able to use full words anymore; they simply spit out three-letter combinations.
I tune out.
Instead, I fight back with my own made up acronyms, which keeps them guessing and on the backfoot. I talk about how I’m crushing it in RQT, cruising in the JEX markets and have made several inroads on WWE.
WWE is World Wrestling Entertainment.
Most people at these events are so cooked that they don’t even question what these phrases mean, even though they obviously have no idea.
That’s the power of modern conversation. It doesn’t really matter what words or sentences come out of your mouth. It’s more about the image you project while saying them.
I once invented sixty acronyms in one conversation and then two hours later I saw them using them in a chat with another person.
That’s how all these terms started. It’s all completely gibberish and meaningless.
Hope this improves your LQT performance.
